In case you needed a little reminder to take it easy on yourself and to not let the Sunday scaries creep in too much!
In a world of so much online consumption, it’s easy to make comparisons, to see where other people are in their timelines, and to feel like maybe you’re not doing enough or you haven’t accomplished what you wanted to by now. Today I want you to know that you’re doing okay, even if you feel like you have things you’d like to change or accomplish, don’t get too caught up in constant chase and remember to take a moment to focus on the here and now. There will always be another goal, another “thing” to chase, but along the way, you’re creating memories you will inevitably look back on, so take the time to do things for yourself, go on that weekend trip, say yes to the friend meet up you’ve been putting off, say yes to 5-10 minutes of downtime between work demands so you don’t burn out. Allow yourself those little pockets of joy amongst all the demands of life 🌱

I know that the debate around the art therapist Barbie settled down ages ago but since the new autistic Barbie has sparked some mixed feelings and debate, I wanted to share my feelings after recently receiving the art therapist Barbie.

I think it’s very difficult to fit any kind of career or type of person into box and represent all the nuances that come with complex careers or people that can vary in so many ways and I think my biggest take away and positive remark is that it’s a starting point, an invitation for conversation and education, and since they are Barbie dolls, they are a canvas for customisation and exploration.

I’m sitting with some pretty messy thoughts and feelings wrapping up 2025. It has been one of the worst years of my life and I felt like I needed an outlet, something messy and big. I needed a medium I couldn’t control and charcoal is the perfect fit for that because a thick stick of charcoal forces you to just get the image out and just let it be more gestural and not need to fill in all the details that are easy to get stuck on. Using a messy medium helps to focus on the process, the feeling of creating and make it much less about the image itself and trying to make it look good.

If you’re feeling a little heavy, or stuck, reach out for an art material that that gives you the freedom to just express and not worry about the outcome whether that’s charcoal, cheap kiddies crayons, watercolour, ink and a stick from the garden, what ever it may be for you, give it a go and just draw what ever comes up without thinking about it too much.
